Astro-Seek is a free site with an enormous set of astrology calculators: natal, sidereal, traditional and Hellenistic charts, a choice of house systems, solar arc, synastry, transit search and a celebrity database of roughly 90,000 people. AsterNym is free too, and computes eight symbolic systems from your birth data, but explains each result in plain English rather than handing you a table. Astro-Seek is stronger if you know astrology and want options; we're easier if you want to be told what your chart says. AsterNym is ours.
The most tools of anyone, and it is not close
Astro-Seek will calculate things we've never implemented. Sidereal charts in several ayanamsas, a range of house systems, solar arc directions, traditional and Hellenistic chart layouts, transit and aspect searches, and a famous-people database it describes as around 90,000 charts, searchable by planet position, house cusp or aspect.
All free, no account, no upsell. If you know what you're looking for, it's the strongest free calculator set on the web and we're not going to pretend otherwise.
We build one of the two sites in this comparison. That matters more here than in most of these posts, because Astro-Seek is a direct competitor rather than a different kind of product.
Where Astro-Seek beats us outright
- Choice of conventions. Multiple house systems and ayanamsas, where we pick one of each and state it. Their flexibility is right for a practitioner; our single choice is right for someone who doesn't want to choose.
- Techniques we don't have. Solar arc, progressions, chart search by aspect, and the traditional calculators.
- A far bigger celebrity database. Around 90,000 charts against our roster of about nine thousand, and theirs is searchable by chart feature.
- Years of accumulated tooling. Whatever obscure thing you need, there's usually a page for it.
What we do differently
- We explain instead of tabulating. A chart on Astro-Seek is a table you have to be able to read. Ours comes with the reading attached, and says which convention produced it.
- More than Western and Vedic. BaZi, Zi Wei Dou Shu, Human Design, numerology and the tarot birth card sit in the same reading, computed by their own rules.
- We say what we won't claim. A calculator has no opinion about predicting illness. We do, and we publish it.
- Design for a phone. Their strength is density; density on a small screen is hard going.
Two databases of famous charts
Both of us publish charts for public figures. Theirs is larger and searchable by chart feature, which is the better research tool by a distance.
Ours is built differently: every person carries the Wikidata id their birth data came from, birth times appear only with a documented source and a Rodden rating, and a page states plainly when there's no time on record instead of quietly assuming noon. If you want to check where a birth time came from, our roster shows you. If you want to find every actor with Mars in the tenth, use theirs.

- Yes. Its calculators, charts and celebrity database are free to use on the web without payment, which is one reason it is the strongest free chart resource available. AsterNym is also free, and differs by explaining results rather than presenting them as tables.
- Which has more celebrity birth charts?
- Astro-Seek, by a wide margin: its database holds roughly 90,000 people against AsterNym's roster of about nine thousand. AsterNym's are built for provenance instead, carrying the Wikidata id behind each birth date and showing a Rodden rating whenever a birth time is claimed.
- Does AsterNym let me choose a house system like Astro-Seek does?
- No. AsterNym uses whole-sign houses for Western charts and the Lahiri ayanamsa for Jyotish, states both on the page, and does not offer alternatives. Astro-Seek does offer the choice, which makes it the better tool if you already know which convention you want.
