What do I need to calculate my Human Design chart?

Your birth date, birth time and birthplace. The birthplace is used only to convert the recorded local time to UTC with the historical time-zone rules; once the moment is known in UTC the chart does not depend on latitude or longitude. Type, Authority and Profile can change with a few minutes' difference, so a precise time matters. What are the Human Design Types?

There are four Types: Generator, Manifestor, Projector and Reflector. Manifesting Generator is a Generator subtype, a Generator whose defined Sacral is connected to the Throat through a motor. Type is read from which centres are defined by complete channels and how they connect, and each Type has a Strategy the system teaches.

What is Authority in Human Design?

Authority is where the system locates a person's most reliable way of deciding. It follows a fixed hierarchy over the defined centres: Emotional if the Solar Plexus is defined, else Sacral, else Splenic, else Ego, else Self-Projected, else Mental, and Lunar for a chart with no defined centres. AsterNym shows which one your chart produces and why.

Can I get my Human Design chart without a birth time?

Partly. AsterNym calculates the chart across the whole day, finds every point where a result changes, solves each boundary numerically to the second and reports the time windows and what each produces. Where a result holds all day you are told so. The boundary timestamps are calculation precision, not a claim that the recorded birth time is accurate to a second.

Is Human Design scientifically proven?

No. It was created in 1987 by Alan Robert Krakower, who later used the name Ra Uru Hu, combining an astrological chart with the I Ching's 64 hexagrams, the chakra system and the Kabbalistic tree of life. It has not been validated through a substantial body of peer-reviewed research. The chart calculation is deterministic under the conventions AsterNym states; what it is said to mean is interpretation.

Human Design is a modern system created in 1987 by Alan Robert Krakower, later known as Ra Uru Hu. It combines an astrological chart, the I Ching, the chakras and the Kabbalah into one body-shaped diagram. It is young, and it does not claim otherwise.

Human Design sorts you into one of four kinds of person, gives you a rule of thumb for making decisions, and names the part of you it thinks you should listen to when you are deciding. It draws all of that from two moments: your birth, and a point about three months earlier.

How a planet becomes a gate

Human Design overlays the 64 I Ching hexagrams onto the tropical zodiac in a fixed sequence called the Rave Mandala. The wheel divides the zodiac into 64 equal arcs of 5.625°, beginning with Gate 41 at 2° Aquarius (302° of ecliptic longitude) in the standard published mapping. Each gate is divided into six lines of 0.9375°. A body's longitude is converted into a gate and a line, and that activation is transferred to the BodyGraph.

Mars does not sit in Gate 34. Mars has a longitude; the Rave Mandala maps that longitude to Gate 34. AsterNym keeps one canonical table for the mapping, versioned as asternym-rave-mandala-v1, and tests every one of the 384 line boundaries just before, at and just after the edge.

A single active gate is a hanging gate. It colours the centre; it does not define it. Only a complete channel defines its two centres.

Two moments, and why the second is not 88 days ago

Every Human Design chart uses two astronomical snapshots. The first is your birth moment, which produces the Personality. The second produces the Design, and it is the part most home-made calculators get wrong.

The Design moment is the timestamp at which the tropical geocentric longitude of the Sun is exactly 88° behind its longitude at the birth moment. Because the Earth's orbit is elliptical the Sun does not move at a constant rate, between about 0.95° and 1.02° a day, so 88° of arc lands anywhere from roughly 86.6 to 92.0 days before birth depending on the time of year.

That difference is up to four days. Four days is about fifty degrees of Moon, which is nine gates. A fixed 88-day offset does not shift a chart slightly; it produces a different chart. AsterNym solves the timestamp numerically to better than a second and prints birth_sun_longitude, design_sun_longitude, target_arc and design_timestamp_utc in the calculation panel so the solver can be audited.

Why we ask for a birthplace

Human Design does not use your birthplace to calculate houses or an Ascendant. We use the place to convert your recorded local birth time correctly into UTC, including historical time-zone and daylight-saving rules. Once the moment is known in UTC, the BodyGraph calculation does not depend on your latitude or longitude, and a test holds the engine to that: the same UTC instant with Jakarta or Singapore coordinates produces the same activations.

Why calculators disagree, and what this one uses

When Human Design calculators disagree, several implementation choices can be responsible:

historical time zone and daylight-saving conversion of the recorded local time
the ephemeris and its version
the lunar-node convention, mean or true
apparent versus geometric planetary positions (light-time and aberration)
how the 88° Design moment is solved, and whether it is solved at all rather than approximated as 88 days
rounding at gate and line boundaries

AsterNym exposes the conventions that can materially change your result. The two node conventions can sit over a degree and a half apart, a third of a gate, so they do produce different charts for some people. Where one of your activations sits within a hundredth of a degree of a gate or line edge, the panel says so, because that is where a different convention could legitimately give a different answer.

Earth is always the Sun plus 180° and the South Node always the North Node plus 180°; both are derived, never looked up separately, and a test asserts it.

If you do not know your birth time

Some Human Design tools check midnight, noon and midnight again, find them the same and tell you the chart is stable. That does not follow: a result can change during the day and change back, so three matching samples can hide two transitions.

This one calculates your chart across the whole day, detects every point where a result changes, and solves each of those boundaries numerically to the second. You get the list of time windows and what each one produces, and where a result holds across the entire day you get told that too.

Boundary timestamps are solved numerically to the second. That is calculation precision, not a claim that the recorded birth time itself is accurate to one second. A birth certificate may only be accurate to five or fifteen minutes, and a window that narrow is best read as a window.

What Human Design is

This system is not ancient, and it does not claim to be. One man invented it: Alan Robert Krakower, who later called himself Ra Uru Hu, said it came to him during an eight-day experience on Ibiza in January 1987. Human Design organisations call that event a transmission. We report it as the system's own origin story, because that is what it is, and not as something anyone has established independently.

The system combines an astrological chart with the I Ching's 64 hexagrams, the chakra system and the Kabbalistic tree of life into one body-shaped diagram. It is young, it has a single origin, and its own teaching goes beyond astrology to claims about neutrinos and genetics.

What about neutrinos?

You will read that neutrinos passing through the planets imprint you at your two chart moments. Neutrinos are real particles and that part is fine. The imprinting is the part to be careful with: it is not an established finding in particle physics or in genetics, and no experiment supports it. So we compute the positions the system asks for, and we do not pass its proposed mechanism off as physics.

Two different things get called accuracy here, and only one of them is ours to promise. Your chart is deterministic under the conventions shown here: give the engine the same birth data and settings and you get the same result, every time, and you can check the working. What that result is said to mean about you is a different claim, and it has not been validated through a substantial body of peer-reviewed research showing that Types, Authorities or chart readings predict personality, behaviour or outcomes.

Everything interpretive on this page is written as what Human Design teaches, and its Strategy is presented as the system's own experiment: notice what changes when you follow it. Within the system a defined centre is read as a consistent way of operating and an undefined centre as an area more open to conditioning and variation. An undefined centre is not missing and not defective. Centres are associated with themes in the system; they are not claims about organs.
