Numerology reduces your birth date and the letters of your name to single numbers, and reads the pattern they make. This page uses the modern Western system commonly called Pythagorean, with the exact convention stated.
Numerology reads two things: your birth date, which becomes your Life Path, and your name, whose letters carry numbers of their own. AsterNym uses the modern Western system commonly called Pythagorean numerology. It draws its name from Pythagorean number philosophy, but the familiar birth-date and English letter-number methods are modern developments, not techniques documented from Pythagoras himself. Numerology schools differ on where a master number is allowed to survive, so here is AsterNym’s exact method. AsterNym reduces the birth month, birth day and birth year separately, preserving the master-number stages specified below. It then adds those three results and reduces the final total by the same rule. A master number that survives carries its root inside it: 11/2, 22/4 and 33/6, read as an intensified version of that root’s theme. Every Life Path on the site, including the sixty AsterNym identities and the Famous pages, comes from this one calculation, versioned as asternym-life-path-v1.
You may get a different Life Path from another calculator, and if you do it is almost certainly this: most free tools add every digit of the date straight across in one run. That shortcut and the method above disagree on roughly one birth date in eight, nearly always over whether you are an 11 or a 2, a 22 or a 4. Reducing month, day and year separately is what Juno Jordan and Decoz specify and what most published numerology follows, which is why it is the one used here. A number reached by the straight-across shortcut is not a different reading of your date; it is a different sum.

Not a global rule. The four core numbers keep 11, 22 and 33. The cycle numbers reduce to 1 to 9, so the nine-year Personal Year calendar stays a nine-year calendar. This is AsterNym’s convention, and it matches most practice.

Convention: calendar year (1 January to 31 December); every stage reduced to 1-9. Your birth year plays no part, so two people born on the same day thirty years apart share a Personal Year.
All letters together give your Expression; the vowels alone your Soul Urge; the consonants your Personality. Before reduction the Expression total equals the Soul Urge total plus the Personality total, and the engine checks that it does. Changing the spelling or romanisation can change the result. A name is a decision somebody made; a date is not.

Yes. Numerology operates on the written digits of a calendar date. Convert the same birth moment into another calendar and the arithmetic changes. AsterNym uses the Gregorian civil date as recorded on the birth certificate.
