Terms of Service

AsterNym turns a name and birth details into readings from eight symbolic systems (Western astrology, BaZi, Chinese zodiac, Jyotish, Zi Wei Dou Shu, Numerology, Tarot birth card and Human Design), name and reference data, and one real astronomical sky reconstructed for the birth moment. AsterNym also produces syntheses of its own: the sixty AsterNym identities and the AsterNym Match Score out of 100. These are AsterNym's creations and are labelled as such wherever they appear.

The service includes personal reports, daily readings, the Match Score, famous profiles, shareable prints, the Ask AsterNym assistant and optional star dedications.

Readings, identities and Match Scores are provided for reflection and entertainment. They are cultural interpretation or AsterNym synthesis, not established fact, professional assessment or prediction of future events. Nothing on AsterNym should be used as the basis for a medical, psychological, legal, financial or safety decision. The limits AsterNym keeps are set out on What we won’t tell you, which forms part of these Terms.

You must be 18 or older to create an account or make a purchase.

AsterNym is not available for independent use by anyone under 18, with or without an account. A parent or legal guardian who is signed in may create a child reading in parent mode after confirming that they are the child’s parent or legal guardian. That reading is calculated on the parent’s device, is not attached to the account and is never stored on AsterNym’s servers. It excludes the Match Score, celebrity comparison, lucky-number and dedication features.

An account created by someone under 18, or a child reading created by someone who is not the child’s parent or legal guardian, is a breach of these Terms. Such an account carries no entitlement and is deleted when identified.

By creating an account or making a purchase, you confirm that the information you provide about your eligibility is accurate.

An account requires an email address. AsterNym sends a one-time code to that address to verify access and begin a session.

You are responsible for: maintaining control of your email account; preventing unauthorized access on shared devices; providing accurate account information; and notifying us if you believe your account has been compromised. You may sign out or request account deletion using the controls provided in the product.

The features identified as free may be used without payment, subject to eligibility and reasonable usage limits. Some free features require an account so that results can be saved and synchronized. AsterNym may add, change or discontinue free features, but doing so will not alter an existing paid entitlement without notice. Creating an account does not enroll you in a paid subscription.

Every star offered through AsterNym corresponds to a real astronomical catalogue entry. An AsterNym dedication records, in AsterNym’s own registry, a commemorative association between that star and the name or message you choose. Registry pages are public (see section 8). The association exists only within AsterNym. It does not: change the star’s scientific designation; create ownership of the star or any celestial object; receive recognition from the International Astronomical Union; require astronomers, planetarium applications or other registries to use your dedication; or prevent another private registry from associating the same star with someone else.

Any exclusivity applies only within the AsterNym registry and only under the conditions stated for the purchased tier.

A dedication made in a public figure’s name records the buyer’s commemoration; it does not imply the figure’s endorsement or participation. AsterNym never creates a registry entry from a child’s parent-mode reading.

Current prices, billing periods, included features and applicable taxes are displayed before checkout.

If you select a recurring dedication or subscription: you authorize Stripe to charge the displayed amount at the stated interval; the purchase renews automatically until cancelled; the renewal price, interval and cancellation method are shown at checkout before payment and repeated in the order confirmation; and you can cancel online through your account settings (or by emailing hello@asternym.com) using a process that is no more difficult than enrollment. Cancellation prevents future renewal charges but does not ordinarily refund an already completed billing period.

After cancellation or failed renewal, the dedication is archived at the end of the paid period. Archived means the dedication no longer appears on public registry pages, in search or on the star's page. The order record is kept for the retention period stated in the Privacy Policy, and the star becomes available to another customer.

A digital purchase is delivered when the report, dedication page or file is made available in your account or at the link emailed to you. If we cannot deliver a purchase, or a dedication cannot be recorded because the star is no longer available, we refund it in full.

Deleting your account cancels any renewal. An active dedication stays on its registry page until the end of the paid period unless you ask for it to be archived immediately.

We will provide notice of price changes where required. A new price will not be charged until any required notice or consent has been provided. Except where required by law or stated in a product-specific policy, digital purchases are non-refundable once delivered. Nothing in these Terms limits mandatory consumer cancellation, refund or warranty rights.

Physical prints, frames and gift products are subject to the shipping price, estimated delivery window and return policy displayed at checkout.

Dispatch period: physical products are dispatched within 10 business days of production approval. Delivery regions: the countries listed at checkout; we do not ship to a country that is not listed, and we tell you before payment if yours is not. Damage or production-error policy: report a damaged or incorrectly produced item within 30 days of delivery with photos and we will replace it at no charge or refund it. Personalized-product return policy: because each item is made to order with your dedication, personalized products are not returnable for change of mind where the law allows. Defective or incorrect items are always replaced or refunded. Customs and import charges, where they apply, are the recipient’s responsibility.

Registry pages are public: the dedication name, message, star and date can be seen by anyone with the link and may be indexed by search engines. There is no image upload today; if one is added, embedded photo metadata such as location will be removed before display. By submitting a dedication name or message, you confirm that: you have the right to submit it; it does not violate another person’s privacy, intellectual property or other rights; it is not unlawful, threatening, hateful, deceptive, defamatory or harassing; it does not expose sensitive personal information without permission; and it does not impersonate another person or falsely suggest their endorsement.

You retain ownership of content you create. You grant AsterNym a worldwide, non-exclusive, royalty-free licence to host, reproduce, format and display it for the purpose of operating the registry and delivering your purchased product. We do not use your dedication in advertising without your separate permission. You may withdraw this licence by deleting eligible content or requesting removal, except where limited retention is necessary for transactions, legal compliance or dispute resolution.

AsterNym may reject or remove content and restrict accounts that violate these Terms. If a dedication is removed because its content violates these Terms, fees already paid are not refunded; if we remove content in error, we will restore it or refund the affected period.

You may enter another adult’s birth details for a reading or a Match Score only with their knowledge and agreement. You may not enter the details of anyone under 18 except as their parent or legal guardian, and a child’s details are never used for a Match Score.

The AsterNym Match Score is a scoring system AsterNym created. It compares two entered profiles symbolically. It does not reveal another person’s private thoughts, feelings, intentions or likelihood of entering or maintaining a relationship. Famous profiles are generated from cited public information. AsterNym does not claim endorsement, participation or approval by any featured public figure.

A Match Credit is one run of the AsterNym Match Score. The current rules are published on the Invite friends page and form part of these Terms:

• Everyone starts with 2 free matches. Each friend who joins through your code earns you 1 Match Credit, and gives them 1 on top of their own free matches.
• A credit is earned when the friend creates a new AsterNym account with your code attached. Nothing is owed for a reading made without an account.
• New accounts only. Your own account, a second account of your own and an address that already has an account do not qualify. Each new account can be credited to one inviter, once.
• Child readings never qualify and never carry credits. Parent mode is not attached to an account.
• Credits are used on Match Score runs. They have no cash value, cannot be transferred or sold, and are not paid out.
• Credits do not expire. AsterNym may remove credits obtained through fake accounts, purchased sign-ups or automated traffic, and may close accounts created for that purpose.
• You see that a referral completed and a masked email address. You never see the friend's birth details or their readings.
• AsterNym never asks for, imports or stores your contacts. Sharing goes through your own messaging apps, on your device.

You may not: access or attempt to access another person’s account; scrape or automate requests against the service, other than search-engine crawling that follows our robots.txt; circumvent security, rate limits or payment controls; extract or resell underlying datasets in bulk; republish substantial portions of AsterNym content as your own service; use the service to harass, impersonate, deceive or expose another person; introduce malware or interfere with the service; or use AsterNym for an unlawful purpose. We may investigate suspected misuse and suspend or terminate access where reasonably necessary.

AsterNym’s software, visual design, written interpretations, the sixty AsterNym identities, the Match Score, branding and original content belong to Moat Ventures or its licensors. The traditions AsterNym draws on belong to no one, and AsterNym claims nothing over them. Subject to these Terms, you may download and share your personal print and report for personal, non-commercial use.

You may not reproduce, sell, license or use substantial AsterNym content to create a competing database, report system or commercial product without written permission. Scientific facts, public-domain information and third-party datasets remain subject to their applicable rights and licences.

We work to calculate names, dates, chart placements, coordinates and star positions carefully. Nevertheless, source data and software may be incomplete, disputed or incorrect. AsterNym does not guarantee that: every name origin or meaning is universally accepted; historical popularity data covers every country or spelling; public-figure birth information is accurate; historical weather data reflects conditions at an exact address; a star will be visible without equipment or under local conditions; or a reading will feel accurate or relevant to every person.

Every calculation runs under conventions AsterNym has chosen and published on the relevant page: for example the house system, the aspect orbs, the Zi Wei rules, the Human Design solver, the Jyotish ayanamsa and node convention. Another calculator using other conventions can give a different result from the same birth details. Both can be correct under their own rules.

We may modify, suspend or discontinue parts of AsterNym for maintenance, security, legal or operational reasons. We may suspend or terminate access when a user materially violates these Terms, creates risk for other people or the service, or fails to pay for a paid feature. Where practical, we will provide notice and a reasonable opportunity to resolve the issue. Mandatory consumer rights and any surviving paid entitlement will be handled according to applicable law.

AsterNym provides readings, identities and Match Scores based on the symbolic systems named in section 1, applied to the birth details and names you provide. All such content is to be treated as interpretation of those systems or as AsterNym’s own synthesis. Interpretations made by AsterNym can and will differ from interpretations made by other practitioners of the same traditions, and no single interpretation is authoritative. Astronomical positions shown on AsterNym are calculated from published ephemerides and catalogues under the conventions stated in section 12; the meanings attached to them are cultural interpretation.

In no way do AsterNym services constitute legal, psychological, medical, business, financial or other professional advice, and they do not constitute direction, diagnosis or treatment of any kind: medical, mental, spiritual or other. Do not use AsterNym as a substitute for consulting a qualified professional, and do not delay seeking professional help because of anything you read on AsterNym.

AsterNym is provided on an “as available” basis. To the extent permitted by law, we disclaim implied warranties that may otherwise apply. AsterNym and its operator are not responsible for decisions made in reliance on symbolic readings or compatibility results, or for indirect or consequential losses that were not reasonably foreseeable.

Our total liability connected with a paid product will not exceed the amount you paid to AsterNym during the 12 months before the claim, except where liability cannot legally be excluded or limited. Nothing in these Terms excludes liability for fraud, deliberate misconduct, death or personal injury caused by negligence, or any other liability that applicable law does not permit us to exclude. Nothing in these Terms limits mandatory consumer rights.

AsterNym may rely on or link to third-party services, datasets and websites. Their own terms and privacy policies apply when you use them. We are not responsible for third-party services outside our reasonable control, but we remain responsible for obligations that applicable law places on us.

We may update these Terms as the service changes. If an update materially affects an account, subscription or paid entitlement, we will provide reasonable advance notice and request renewed acceptance where required. Changes will apply prospectively unless law or urgent security concerns require otherwise.

These Terms are governed by the laws of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region, without excluding consumer protections that apply in the country where you live. Before starting formal proceedings, you and AsterNym agree to try to resolve the issue by contacting hello@asternym.com. Any dispute that cannot be resolved informally is subject to the exclusive jurisdiction of the courts of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region.
