About AsterNym
Most astrology apps read you from one tradition. You are more complicated than that.
The horoscope you grew up with looks at a single thing: where the Sun sat on your birthday. One sign, twelve boxes, a whole person sorted into a paragraph. The prettiest apps in the world are still doing this. They have better fonts than the newspaper. They are asking the same small question.
We built AsterNym because one tradition, read beautifully, is still one tradition. The world has spent three thousand years building others, and almost nobody puts them in the same place.
What we believe
We separate what is calculated from what is believed.
This is the line most of astrology refuses to draw. Where the planets and stars sat when you were born is astronomy. It is real, it is precise, and you can check our numbers against any observatory. What those positions are said to mean is tradition, and a tradition is a way of reflecting, not a fact about your future. We keep those two things visibly apart on every page. We will not dress a calculation in mystical language and sell it back to you as fate. You get the wonder and the workings, and you get to see which is which.

One system is a keyhole. We wanted the door.
Western astrology is one way of reading a birth. It is not the only one, and outside the West it is not even the main one. China built BaZi and Zi Wei Dou Shu. India built Jyotish and the nakshatras. Korea reads Saju, Japan reads Nine Star Ki, Java reads Weton. Each is a complete system with its own logic, its own centuries and its own way of describing a person. Most apps pick one and stop. We calculate eight symbolic systems from the same birth moment and put them side by side.

They stay separate because folding a tradition into a summary is how its logic gets lost.

We will never tell you when you will die, whether you are ill, who to leave, or that a chart has the last word on your life. Astrology is a mirror, not a judge. We treat it as a serious, old, human way of understanding yourself, and we refuse to treat it as magic that outranks you.
The symbolic systems here have not been shown to predict personality or future events. We say that plainly while still taking their history and internal rules seriously. The astronomy is a different kind of claim: those positions can be independently checked.
What we will not tell you →Who is behind AsterNym
AsterNym is built by a small founding team and operated by Moat Ventures. There is no room of astrologers behind a curtain. The calculation engines, the editorial rules and this site are made and maintained by the same few people, and the email address at the bottom of every page reaches them.
The journal carries four bylines: Mira Hale, Natalie Hasselbank, Lily Lau and Salimah Ibrahim. Mira also answers our email, so if you write to us, you are writing to someone who writes here.
If something on this site is wrong, tell us. We will fix it, and we will say that we did. That promise is what makes the rest of this page worth anything.
