The factors typically considered include the day's lunar mansion, the weekday, the tithi or lunar day, the yoga and karana, and whether the chosen moment clashes with the individual's own chart.
Because it is rule-based, muhurta is more checkable than most astrological services. A practitioner should be able to state which almanac they used and which factors drove the recommendation, and a reason that can be stated can be examined.

Six red flags

How to judge the reading afterwards
Write it down before anything happens. Record what was said, with dates, and read it back in six months. Without a record, memory keeps the hits and discards the misses, and you will conclude the reading was accurate regardless of what occurred.
