Draconic synastry: the 'soul level' reading
A whole chart rotated so the north node becomes zero degrees Aries. The maths is trivial; the claim is not.

The short answer
A draconic chart is your natal chart with every position shifted so that the north lunar node sits at 0° Aries. It is a single subtraction applied to everything. Comparing two people's draconic charts, or one person's draconic against another's natal, is described as a soul-level reading. The arithmetic is simple and the interpretive claim attached to it has no basis beyond the node's existing karmic associations.
The calculation
Find your north node's position, subtract it from every point in the chart, and you have the draconic chart. If your north node is at 12° Taurus — 42° of absolute longitude — you subtract 42° from everything.
That is the entire operation. Every planet keeps its relative spacing, so all your natal aspects survive unchanged. What changes is the signs and houses everything falls into.
Because the aspects are identical, a draconic chart contains no new information about the relationships between your planets. It relabels their positions against a different zero point.
Where the soul-level framing comes from
Entirely from the lunar nodes. Modern Western astrology attaches karmic meaning to the nodes — the south node as inherited pattern, the north as growth direction — and that association is itself a relatively recent addition to the tradition.
Re-zeroing a chart to the north node is then described as viewing it from a soul perspective, because the node is the karmic point.
The reasoning is: node means soul, therefore a chart measured from the node is a soul chart. That is a chain of association rather than a derivation, and each link is a convention.
None of which makes it useless as a reflective device. It does mean the framing carries more weight than the technique supports, and the term 'soul level' is doing a great deal of work.
How it is used in synastry
- Draconic to draconic. Both charts re-zeroed and compared. Since both are shifted, this mostly reveals what a natal comparison would, offset.
- Draconic to natal. One person's draconic chart against the other's natal — the comparison practitioners find most interesting, because it produces contacts that do not exist in an ordinary synastry.
- Draconic Sun conjunct natal Sun. Cited as the signature draconic contact, and it occurs when two people's Suns sit at the same distance from their respective north nodes.
That last condition is worth stating plainly, because it explains the frequency. Two people share it whenever their Sun-to-node distances happen to match, which is a coincidence of two arbitrary offsets rather than anything about them.
The honest position
The technique is arithmetically well-defined and reproducible, which puts it ahead of vaguer methods. It is also entirely unvalidated, and the claim attached — that it reveals a connection at the level of the soul — is the kind that cannot be checked in principle.
The practical risk is specific: a draconic reading suggesting a soul-level bond can carry considerable weight in a difficult relationship, and 'we are connected at a deeper level' is a poor reason to stay somewhere unhappy.
