Difficulty piles up; the horses turn. Not a robber but a suitor. Wait ten years.
Help arrives in a form you distrust, and the instinct to refuse it is wrong; it is a genuine offer. Even so, the tradition counsels waiting a long time before binding yourself. Accept goodwill without committing prematurely.
Advice. Accept help, but do not commit to anything permanent yet.
What changes when line 2 moves
Line 2 of Hexagram 3 is yin, a broken line. When it is cast as old yin (a 6) it flips, and the hexagram becomes Hexagram 60, Limitation: Water in a lake with a bank: limits that give form and save strength, provided they are not galling.
Read together, the reading moves from Difficulty at the Beginning toward Limitation. A birth is hard: the situation is new, tangled and full of promise, and it needs helpers. Lake below, water above: a lake that holds only so much, and overflows past its limit. Limitation describes measure: the boundaries, rules and economies that give a life or an undertaking its shape.
