Hexagram 6 line 6: Conflict, yang in the sixth place

Awarded a belt of honour, and stripped of it three times before the morning ends.
Winning the conflict outright, and finding the victory cannot be held. What is gained by fighting to the end is taken away again and again. The line is the tradition's clearest statement that some victories are losses.
Advice. Do not fight for a win that will only be contested; it will not stay yours.
What changes when line 6 moves
Line 6 of Hexagram 6 is yang, a solid line. When it is cast as old yang (a 9) it flips, and the hexagram becomes Hexagram 47, Oppression: A lake with no water: exhaustion, confinement, and the strength of character that carries a person through.
Read together, the reading moves from Conflict toward Oppression. A dispute you are sincere in but cannot win outright: meet halfway, and take advice before going further. Water below, lake above: the water has drained out of the lake, leaving it dry. Oppression describes exhaustion, the state of being hemmed in and drained, the tree in the enclosure. The primary hexagram describes the situation; the changing line is the point of movement in it; the resulting hexagram is where that movement leads. Both hexagrams belong to the reading, and the changing line is the hinge between them.
