Can astrology predict divorce?

No. A chart can describe how you tend to relate. It cannot see a decision two people have not yet made.

The short answer

No. No astrological technique has been shown to predict whether a marriage will end. The methods offered β€” the seventh house and its ruler, hard transits from Saturn or Uranus, synastry and composite charts read for strain β€” have never been validated against who actually divorced and who stayed together. A chart can describe how you tend to relate, in the present tense, and that is genuinely useful. It cannot forecast a decision that two people have not yet made, and much of what determines a divorce is not in anyone's chart at all.

The direct answer

A birth chart cannot tell you whether you will divorce, when, or with whom. Nothing in any astrological tradition has been shown to do it under conditions that would rule out chance.

It is worth being clear about why this is a particularly weak thing to claim, separate from astrology's general problems. A divorce is not an event that happens to you like weather. It is a choice β€” usually two choices, made by two people, over months or years, shaped by money, children, law, family, and everything that happens between now and then. A birth-moment chart does not contain the other person, and it certainly does not contain the future circumstances that do most of the work.

The techniques you will be offered

Knowing what they are makes them less impressive, so here they are plainly.

  • The seventh house and its ruler. The house of marriage and partnership. A 'difficult' planet there, or a strained ruler, is read as a marriage under threat. In practice the seventh house is read far more often for how you relate one-to-one and what you look for in a partner β€” the doom reading is a choice, not a fact of the house.
  • Hard transits from Saturn and Uranus. Saturn is read as pressure and Uranus as sudden rupture, so a transit from either to the seventh house or its ruler gets called a divorce window. Both bodies contact something significant on a schedule anyone can compute, which makes an apparent hit close to guaranteed across a long marriage.
  • Synastry. Comparing two charts and reading the hard aspects between them β€” a Mars square, a Saturn contact β€” as friction that will end the relationship. It generates plenty of 'difficult' contacts for any two people, because any two charts have them.
  • The composite chart. A single chart built from the midpoints of two people's charts, treated as the relationship's own horoscope, then read for signs of collapse. It adds a layer of symbolism, which multiplies the possible readings rather than sharpening them.

Notice the shared move. Each method offers several ways to find trouble in any marriage, and every marriage has trouble to find. When something goes wrong, the matching aspect is produced as the explanation; when nothing does, it is quietly forgotten. That is retrofitting, not prediction.

Why the claim survives anyway

Roughly four in ten marriages end in many countries, and long marriages pass through hard years almost by definition. Against those base rates, a warning of trouble is nearly always eventually 'right', and a prediction of endurance often is too. The prediction rides the underlying odds and takes the credit.

There is also a self-fulfilling edge worth naming. Someone told their marriage is astrologically doomed may read every ordinary conflict as confirmation, and treat the relationship as already lost. The chart did not foresee the ending; it helped manufacture one. That is not a reason to fear your chart β€” it is a reason not to hand it that authority.

What a chart can honestly offer about relationships

The useful question is not whether it ends. It is how you tend to show up, which is present-tense, checkable against your own experience, and actually yours to work with.

Your Venus describes what you are drawn to and how you express affection. Your Moon describes what you need to feel secure β€” often the quiet thing that decides whether closeness is comfortable or frightening. Your seventh house describes what you look for in a partner and what you may be projecting onto them. Read as prompts for self-understanding, these are a decent structured mirror. Read as fate, they are overreach.

A comparison between two charts has the same ceiling. AsterNym's match shows where two charts share a pattern and where they pull against each other, with the score's working shown β€” a way to talk about difference, not a verdict on whether it lasts. The page says exactly that, because implying otherwise would be the same overclaim we are describing here. If you want the wider case for how much Western astrology can and cannot support, that is its own honest reckoning.

Where AsterNym draws the line

We do not predict divorce, separation, or the failure of a relationship, and we do not compute a 'compatibility score' that pretends to. Predicting the end of a marriage is on the published list of things we will not tell you, and it stays there.

If you are asking because you are frightened about your marriage, that is a real feeling and it deserves better than a chart. A chart cannot tell you it will be all right, and it cannot tell you to leave. What it can do β€” describe how you relate, so you can think about it more clearly β€” is worth having, and it is a different thing from a forecast.

Common questions

Can astrology predict divorce?
No. No astrological technique has been shown to predict whether or when a marriage will end. The methods offered β€” the seventh house, hard transits, synastry, composite charts β€” generate several ways to find trouble in any marriage, which makes an apparent hit nearly inevitable and meaningless.
What does the seventh house say about marriage?
The seventh house describes partnership: what you look for in a partner, what you may project onto them, and how you handle one-to-one relationships. It describes patterns of relating in the present, not events, dates, or whether a marriage will survive.
Can synastry or a composite chart show if a couple will divorce?
No. Comparing two charts can describe where they share patterns and where they conflict, which is a useful way to talk about difference. It has no demonstrated ability to predict whether a relationship will last, because any two charts contain difficult contacts.
Why do astrological divorce predictions sometimes seem right?
Because a large share of marriages end and nearly all long ones pass through hard years, so a warning of trouble eventually matches something. The prediction rides those base rates and claims the credit, while the times it was wrong are forgotten.
Does AsterNym predict divorce?
No. Predicting divorce, separation, or the failure of a relationship is on AsterNym's published list of things it will not tell you. It computes how you tend to relate in the present, not whether a relationship will end.
