Can my birth chart tell me when I will fall sick?

Illness is not in the chart

A birth chart cannot tell you when you will fall ill, what you will fall ill with, or whether a symptom you have now is serious. Nothing in any astrological tradition has been shown to do any of those things.

This is the one area where the usual defence of astrology (that it is a harmless reflective tool) stops applying. A person who reads their chart for reassurance about a lump, or who attributes fatigue to a transit instead of getting bloods done, isn't doing something harmless. Delay is the mechanism, and delay in medicine is expensive.

What medical astrology is

It needs describing accurately, because it's more coherent than people expect, and coherence is exactly what makes it persuasive.

The core scheme is melothesia: the assignment of body parts to signs, running head to foot from Aries to Pisces. Aries governs the head, Taurus the throat, Gemini the arms and lungs, and so on down to Pisces and the feet. It's elegant, it's ancient, and it's entirely a mapping. It was not derived from observing patients.

On top of that sit the sixth house, traditionally read for health and daily habits, planetary rulerships of bodily systems, and transit techniques treating certain periods as vulnerable. Until the eighteenth century, this was mainstream European medicine; physicians consulted charts routinely. It stopped being mainstream because medicine developed methods that could be tested, and this one did not survive the comparison.

Medical astrology is a museum piece. I enjoy it as history and I'd never let it near a diagnosis.

Why 'it identified my condition' is not evidence

The most common testimonial is that a chart pointed at the right body part. Consider what that requires. Every chart contains all twelve signs across its houses, and every person has all the body parts. Any illness will correspond to some placement, and it can be found afterwards without difficulty.

This is the retrofitting problem again, and it's why testimonial evidence is nearly worthless for astrology and for a great deal else. The test that would count is stating the condition in advance, in writing, for a set of people, and being scored. Nobody runs it.

What a chart can plainly say about wellbeing

There is a narrow, legitimate space, and name so this isn't purely a list of refusals.

A chart can prompt reflection about habits, whether you rest, how you handle pressure, what depletes you. Framed as a question instead of a diagnosis, that's a helpful nudge, and it's the same nudge a good journal prompt would give.

BaZi frames its version as elemental balance: which of the five elements its method reads as supportive or excessive in your chart, and what practitioners associate with that. AsterNym reports that as a traditional association, not a health finding, and never names a condition.

The line is simple. "You may be someone who runs at full speed and forgets to stop" is a reflection. "Your chart indicates a thyroid problem" is a diagnosis you aren't qualified to receive from a chart or to give from one.

Health is off our list

We don't compute illness, health events, diagnoses, life span or fertility. All of it's on the published refusal list.

We also don't use health-adjacent phrasing to imply a prediction while technically avoiding one, no 'vulnerable periods for your constitution', no 'watch your health this month'. Those are diagnoses with a hedge attached, and the hedge doesn't undo the effect on the reader.

Can astrology predict illness?

No. No astrological technique has demonstrated any ability to predict or diagnose illness. Medical astrology is an internally consistent symbolic system with no established diagnostic validity, and symptoms should always be taken to a doctor.

What is medical astrology?
