The short answer
Almost. Twins born minutes apart share a nearly identical chart: the same planets in the same signs, the same aspects, and usually the same rising sign and house layout. The differences are small and specific — the Ascendant moves about a degree every four minutes, so twins born across a house cusp can end up with shifted houses, and the fast-moving Moon lands on a slightly different degree. The bigger point is not the arithmetic. Twins with near-identical charts often live very different lives, and astrology has never explained how one chart produces two people.
The direct answer
Two people born ten minutes apart in the same place have charts that are, for almost every purpose, the same. Every planet is in the same sign and very nearly the same degree, because planets move slowly against the birth moment — the Sun shifts about a degree a day, the outer planets far less. The pattern of aspects between them is identical. If you printed both charts and swapped them, most astrologers would not notice.
So the honest answer to the headline question is: yes, nearly — with two exceptions that are worth understanding precisely, because they are the only things a birth time buys you that a shared date does not.
The two things that actually differ
Both come down to the fastest-moving parts of a chart, which are the parts most sensitive to a ten-minute gap.
- The rising sign and the houses. The Ascendant — the degree of the zodiac rising on the eastern horizon — moves roughly one degree every four minutes, a full sign about every two hours. Twins ten minutes apart usually keep the same rising sign, but they have moved the whole house framework a couple of degrees. If the first twin was born with, say, 29 degrees of Cancer rising and the second crosses into Leo, their rising sign and the sign on every house cusp can differ. That is the single largest thing a birth time changes, and it is why time matters at all.
- The Moon's exact degree. The Moon is the fastest body in the chart, travelling roughly half a degree an hour. Over ten minutes it moves a fraction of a degree — not enough to change its sign in almost any case, but enough to change its exact degree and, occasionally, whether it is still applying to or separating from an aspect. In practice this is a minor difference. It is real, but it is not what makes two twins different people.
Everything else — Sun, Mercury, Venus, Mars, the outer planets, the overall shape of the chart — is shared. If astrology worked the way it claims to, twins would be about as alike as two charts can make two humans.
The twin problem
This is where the honest account has to leave the arithmetic behind. Identical twins have essentially the same chart and, very often, sharply different lives — different temperaments, different marriages, different careers, one outliving the other by decades. The charts cannot account for that, because for the purposes of astrology the charts are the same.
Astrologers have known this objection for a very long time and have answers to it. Some point to the tiny differences above — the shifted Ascendant, the Moon's degree — and argue that small chart differences produce large life differences. But that argument cuts the wrong way: if a fraction of a degree can send two lives in opposite directions, then a chart is far too sensitive to be read reliably for anyone, because nobody's birth time is known to the second. Others reach for the twins' free will, or their different roles in the family. Those may well be true — but they are explanations for why the chart did not predict the outcome, which is another way of saying the chart did not predict the outcome.
The sharper version of the problem drops twins entirely and looks at 'time twins': unrelated people born at the same moment in the same place, to different families. If a birth chart shaped a life, they should share something detectable. The attempts to check this are small and inconsistent, and none has turned up the parallel lives the theory needs. That absence is the honest state of the evidence, and it is the question astrology has never answered.
What twins can still honestly get from a chart
None of the above makes the exercise pointless — it changes what the exercise is for. Two twins reading their charts side by side are not being told their futures are identical. They are each getting the same reflective vocabulary, and what they do with it is theirs.
If their charts differ at the Ascendant, that difference is a genuinely interesting prompt: it means their houses fall differently, so the same planets are described as operating in different areas of life. That is worth talking about as a way of noticing how differently two very similar people can be built. It is a conversation, not a diagnosis — and a conversation is the most any chart has ever honestly offered.
The numerology angle
Numerology reaches the same wall from the other side. A life-path number is built from the birth date, so twins born on the same day share it outright — no minutes-apart difference at all.
