The answer exposes something about numerology that the systems built on birth time can hide.

The short answer
Yes for the date-based numbers and no for the name-based ones. Twins born on the same date have the same Life Path and the same Birthday number, because both are calculated from the date alone and numerology has no birth-time input at all. Their Expression, Soul Urge and Personality numbers come from their names, so those differ whenever the names differ — which is nearly always. The exception is twins born either side of midnight: they have different birth dates, and therefore different Life Paths.

So the honest summary is that twins share the calendar half of their numerology entirely, and share none of the name half. If they were given the same middle and last names — which they usually are — the difference comes down to the first name alone, and it is often small.
The midnight case
This is the interesting one, and it is not hypothetical. Twin births are frequently separated by several minutes, and occasionally by longer. When those minutes fall across midnight, the two children have different birth dates.
A pair born at 11:57 pm on 30 June and 12:04 am on 1 July are seven minutes apart and have different Life Path numbers — different months, different days, and possibly a different result after reduction. Numerology draws a line at midnight that biology does not.
The same split can move a birthday number by one, change the Personal Year cycle, and in rare cases move a birth across a year boundary. Seven minutes, and the entire date-based half of the reading changes.
Numerology has no birth time at all
This is the structural point, and it separates numerology from every other system on this site.
A birth chart uses the time to place the houses and the Ascendant; twins born twenty minutes apart get measurably different charts, because the Ascendant advances roughly one degree every four minutes. BaZi uses the hour pillar, so twins split across a two-hour branch get different charts too. Numerology uses the date and the name and nothing else.
That means numerology cannot, even in principle, distinguish between two people born on the same day and given similar names. It is not that it does so badly — it has no mechanism to try. Any numerologist claiming to read a difference between same-date twins from their numbers alone is reading their names, and should say so.
What the traditions actually say about twins
Three systems, three different dodges
- Numerology has no established twin doctrine. The date is the date. In practice practitioners fall back on the name-based numbers, which is the only place a difference exists.
- Western astrology has the Ascendant and the house cusps, which genuinely differ for births minutes apart, and this is the standard answer given. How much difference a few degrees of Ascendant makes is a separate and much weaker claim.
- BaZi has ad hoc rules that vary by school — some practitioners read the second-born's chart in reverse, some adjust the hour pillar, some simply accept that the charts are identical. The disagreement between schools is itself informative.
The research on people born at the same time
There is a real study on this, and it is worth knowing about because it tested the strongest version of the claim.
Geoffrey Dean and Ivan Kelly examined a large group of people born in London within minutes of each other in March 1958 — 'time twins' who were not related and shared no upbringing, but shared a birth moment almost exactly. If a birth moment shapes a person, this is the cleanest natural experiment available. They compared over a hundred measured characteristics, including ability, personality traits and occupation, and found no similarity beyond what chance predicts. The results were published in the Journal of Consciousness Studies in 2003.
That is not a study about numerology specifically, and no comparable test exists for numerology's numbers. But it tests the underlying premise that a shared birth moment produces shared traits, and it does not support it.
What to do with all this if you are a twin
Read the name-based numbers, which are the ones that are actually about you rather than about the two of you. Your Expression, Soul Urge and Personality come from your name, and if your first names differ then so do all three.
And be sceptical of anyone who tells you your numbers explain the differences between you and your twin. Numerology's date half cannot do that, and its name half is describing a choice your parents made in a week when they were not sleeping.
