What it is
Far Far Away (farfaraway.co) is a free-to-use Vedic astrology chart service. You enter your birth date, time and place and it returns a reading built on sidereal calculation — the zodiac anchored to the fixed stars rather than the equinox. The site states it uses NASA planetary data for positions and geographic lookup for coordinates.
Alongside the chart it offers question-based readings, a compatibility feature, and an educational YouTube channel teaching Vedic astrology through worked examples. The site advertises well over a million readings generated.
The Vedic features it exposes
What these terms mean if you are new to Jyotish
- Dashas — planetary periods. The Vimshottari system divides your life into named stretches ruled by different planets, some lasting years. This is Jyotish's main timing tool and Western astrology has no direct equivalent.
- Navamsa (D-9) — a divisional chart derived from the main one, traditionally consulted for marriage and for the underlying strength of a planet.
- Dasamsa (D-10) — a second divisional chart, read for career and public standing.
- Nakshatras — 27 lunar mansions dividing the zodiac. The Moon's nakshatra is central to Vedic reading in a way it simply is not in the Western tradition.

These are not competing implementations of one thing. A Vedic tool and a tropical Western tool asked the same birth details will return different signs, different timing frameworks and different vocabulary, and both can be correctly computed. What matters is that each says which system it used — and both do.
What to check on any free chart tool
Four questions worth asking, of us as much as anyone
- Which zodiac? Tropical and sidereal give different answers. A tool that does not say is the only genuinely broken case.
- What happens without a birth time? Houses, the Ascendant and the hour pillar all need one. A tool that returns them anyway is guessing.
- Where do the positions come from? Real ephemeris data, or a lookup table of approximate sign dates?
- What does it refuse to answer? A tool with no refusals is a tool that will tell you anything.
