Salimah Ibrahim

Salimah writes the journal's pieces on Southeast Asian belief: the Javanese almanac and weton, the spirits and charms of Indonesia and the Philippines, Thai astrology, and the folk practices that sit alongside them. She writes about them with the respect the subject is owed, and without pretending the mechanisms have been demonstrated.

Yoga and clean living sit at the centre of how she writes about the everyday, along with an appetite for other people's cultures. That is also why the lifestyle pieces are hers: the skincare, the fashion, the coffee orders, the ones that say plainly that they are for fun.

Outside yoga and astrology she sings, makes batik and follows fashion closely, which is where the eye for colour and pattern in her writing comes from.
