The progressed Moon moves about a degree a month, changing sign roughly every two and a half years and completing a circuit of the chart in 27 to 28 years. Practitioners treat each sign and house passage as an emotional chapter. It is the fastest factor in secondary progressions and the most usable, because its cycle length matches how people describe periods of their lives.

The full circuit is close to the Saturn return period of about 29.5 years, so both fall in the same era of life. That overlap is part of why the late twenties are read as significant.
Why it is the most usable technique
Two to three years is roughly what people call a chapter: a job, a relationship phase, a city. Faster techniques never stop. Slower ones happen so rarely that most years contain none. The progressed Moon gives a continuous sequence of periods with clear boundaries.
This is the one progression I would keep. It moves fast enough to be checked against your own diary.
Reading a chapter
- House before sign. House says which area of life; sign says the manner.
- Write the boundaries down in advance. Dated predictions are the only kind you can check.
- The sign works without a birth time. Houses need one.
The test to run
Compute your progressed Moon's transitions for the past twenty years. Then, before reading any interpretation, write down what was happening in your life at each boundary.
Do it in that order. Reading the interpretation first makes the exercise worthless, because you will find the fit. The same discipline applies to tarot.
