The petty have risen into positions they cannot fill and are beginning to feel it. The line is about the incompetent becoming aware of their limits. If this is your situation, the shame is the first sign of the turn.

What changes when line 3 moves

Line 3 of Hexagram 12 is yin, a broken line. When it is cast as old yin (a 6) it flips, and the hexagram becomes Hexagram 33, Retreat: A timely, dignified withdrawal: strength stepping back before it is forced to, with its integrity intact.

Read together, the reading moves from Standstill toward Retreat. Heaven and earth apart: the wrong people are in charge, and the right response is dignified withdrawal. Mountain below, heaven above: heaven receding from the mountain. Two yin lines are entering at the bottom and rising; the strong lines above withdraw in good order. If a decision cannot wait, choose the option that preserves your position and your integrity. The tradition says the standstill turns; decide as someone who will be here when it does.
