Doing the work for its own sake, without calculating the return. The line approves of undertakings begun in this spirit; the harvest comes to those who plough without staring at it.
Advice. Do the work well and let the reward look after itself.
What changes when line 2 moves
Line 2 of Hexagram 25 is yin, a broken line. When it is cast as old yin (a 6) it flips, and the hexagram becomes Hexagram 10, Treading: Careful conduct in a delicate situation: treading on the tiger's tail, and not being bitten.
Read together, the reading moves from Innocence toward Treading. Acting without calculation: doing what is right because it is right, and accepting what comes. Lake below, heaven above: the gentle and cheerful beneath the strong. Treading is about conduct, about how to move through a situation where a wrong step has real consequences.
