Where the pattern comes from
Element and modality, which is the actual structure of the zodiac and the subject of the modality cheat sheet.
Element decides the flavour: fire wants intensity, earth wants substance, air wants variety, water wants comfort. Modality decides the behaviour: cardinal initiates, fixed repeats, mutable changes.
Combine them and you get twelve distinct combinations, which is why fixed earth (Taurus) orders the same thing forever while mutable earth (Virgo) interrogates the roast date. Both care about the coffee; one is loyal and one is analytical.
