Username and display name are two different problems
Since 2023 your Discord username is unique, lowercase, and limited to letters, digits, full stops and underscores. Your display name is separate, allows capitals, spaces and almost anything else, and can be changed whenever you like.
Score the username here. It is the one that has to be unique, the one people type to find you, and the one worth thinking about — the display name is a decision you can unmake this afternoon.
The rules that reject a name at signup
Two to thirty-two characters. No spaces. No two full stops in a row, and none at the start or the end. Capitals are accepted but silently lowercased, so a name whose whole idea is its capitalisation does not survive.
Every candidate is checked against all of that before it is ranked, and a name that fails cannot take the top slot however well it scores. A ninety-four that Discord rejects is a zero.
