Your handle is not really typed by you — it is typed by everyone quoting you, and it costs them characters every time. Under twelve leaves room for a sentence around the mention, which is why the short ones get quoted more.
Four is the floor. Anything shorter was claimed fifteen years ago and is not coming back.
What gets a handle refused
Letters, digits and underscores only — no full stops, which is the rule that catches people moving over from Discord or Instagram. Handles containing “admin” or “twitter” are restricted and are almost always refused.
Each candidate is checked against all of it, and one that fails cannot win the ranking no matter what the numerology says about it.
