We count the extension. Here is why
On the business name calculator we do not count the legal suffix, because Inc and LLC both total nine in Chaldean and nine is inert — adding it shifts every candidate identically and changes no ranking. A domain extension is not inert. In Chaldean values “com” totals fourteen and reduces to five; “io” reduces to eight. They are genuinely different numbers.
There is also a plainer reason. Nobody says “Acme comma Inc” out loud, but everybody says “dot com”. The extension is part of the name as spoken, so it is part of the name as counted.
If every candidate on your list shares an extension, this changes nothing about their order — it shifts them all the same way. It only matters when you are choosing between extensions, which is exactly when you want it counted.
The costs that are not numerological
A hyphen means saying “with a dash” for the rest of the domain’s life. A digit means nobody knows whether to type the numeral or the word, so you end up buying both. Over fifteen characters and it stops surviving being dictated over a phone.
None of those are errors, and none of them stop a name winning. They are flagged as notes because they are real and recurring, and a calculator that only told you the number would be leaving out the part that costs you money.
What DNS will actually refuse
Letters, digits and hyphens only, no more than sixty-three characters before the first dot, and no hyphen at either end. Those are rejections rather than notes — a domain breaking them cannot be registered at all, so it cannot take the top slot however it scores.
