Santiago Garcias

Santiago writes the journal's pieces on spiritual practice: affirmations, the chakras, crystals, incense and copal, ritual baths, the seven-day candle in the glass jar. He is interested in what a practice does for the person doing it, which is a different question from whether its stated mechanism is real, and he keeps the two apart on purpose.

He came to this through devotion rather than through theory. He cleanses a room with copal, and he can tell you that the smoke is resin and the meaning is his. That is roughly his position on all of it: the ritual is worth doing, the claim about energy fields is not evidence, and saying so does not spoil anything.

His other subject is the long conversation people have with the universe late at night. He likes the questions that have no answer and the people willing to sit in them, and he writes about awakening, vibes and meaning without treating any of it as a diagnosis.

Outside the journal he runs, and he thrifts: retro graphic tees, heavy rings, and whatever esoteric object is sitting unloved at the back of a shelf.

Santiago Garcias is a pen name. He writes privately, and he still stops for the sunset.
