Nine countries, one draw
EuroMillions is drawn once for nine participating countries, so the jackpot is pooled across all of them and the rules around it are not. Tax treatment, anonymity and the add-on games differ by country: British winners get a guaranteed millionaire raffle attached, Irish and French players get different supplements, and what you keep after a win depends on where you bought the ticket.
Five from 50 plus two Lucky Stars from 12 has been the shape since 2016. A pooled draw across that many populations is why the jackpots run high and why the top prize is shared more often than the odds alone would suggest.
What dates do to a shared jackpot
Read this as a note on other players, not on the draw. Your chance of matching is fixed by the format. Your chance of matching alone is not, and that is the difference between a whole prize and a quarter of one.
Of the 50 main numbers in EuroMillions, 31 could be a day of the month and 19 could not. Dates cannot reach past 31, so every line built from one crowds into the same stretch of the board. Lines built entirely from calendar numbers make up 8.0 per cent of the possible lines, and a far larger share of the tickets people fill in by hand. A line reaching above 31 wins no more often. It is held by fewer people when it does. The Lucky Stars pool stops at 12, so that one sits inside calendar range whatever you do with the main numbers.
These follow from the pool size and nothing else. Treat them as a note on crowding, and treat the reading above as a way to choose rather than a way to predict.
