There are 12,103,014 ways to fill the 5 main numbers, and each must also land the right Mega Ball, one of 24 possibilities, from a separate pool, which multiplies out to the 1 in 290,472,336.

The 2025 change most sites still get wrong
Mega Millions changed format in April 2025. The Mega Ball pool dropped to 24, the ticket price went up, and a multiplier that used to be an add-on became part of every play. Plenty of number-generator sites are still drawing a Mega Ball from 1 to 25, and a line built on the old format has a fifth ball that cannot be drawn.
The calculator above uses five from 70 and one from 24. If another site gives you a different shape for the same game, it has not been updated, and the lines it produces are not playable.
The change also moved the game away from its American sibling. Powerball draws five from 69 with one from 26; Mega Millions now draws five from 70 with one from 24. Two games that look interchangeable on a billboard have different pools at both ends, and the odds that follow from them are not the same.
Who else is holding your line
Nothing below improves your chance of winning. Every line is as likely as every other line and no arrangement of numbers changes that. What it can change is how many other tickets carry the same line, which decides whether a top prize arrives whole or in pieces.
Only 44 per cent of the Mega Millions pool falls inside calendar range: 31 numbers a date could give you, 39 it cannot. A slip filled from memory almost always stays under 32, because that is where the calendar stops. Lines built entirely from calendar numbers make up 1.4 per cent of the possible lines, and a far larger share of the tickets people fill in by hand. A line reaching above 31 wins no more often. It is held by fewer people when it does. The Mega Ball pool stops at 24, so that one sits inside calendar range whatever you do with the main numbers.
Every number here falls out of the format above. The generator works from your chart instead, and neither method can tell you what will be drawn.
