There are 11,238,513 ways to fill the 5 main numbers, and each must also land the right Powerball, one of 26 possibilities, from a separate pool, which multiplies out to the 1 in 292,201,338.

What American players do with the form
Powerball runs through the Multi-State Lottery Association, a consortium of state lotteries rather than a federal body, which is why the rules on claiming, taxing and staying anonymous change the moment you cross a state line. Win in one state and your name is public record. Win in another and it is not.
Most tickets sold are Quick Picks, machine-chosen. The minority that are hand-picked cluster heavily on dates, and that clustering is the one thing about other players' behaviour that can affect what you take home. It cannot make you win. It can decide whether the jackpot arrives whole.
The current format dates from 2015, when the main pool widened from 59 numbers to 69 and the Powerball pool narrowed from 35 to 26. That combination made the jackpot harder to win on purpose, so draws roll over further and the advertised figure climbs higher before anybody takes it. The record jackpots that followed were a design decision, not a run of luck.
What dates do to a shared jackpot
Read this as a note on other players, not on the draw. Your chance of matching is fixed by the format. Your chance of matching alone is not, and that is the difference between a whole prize and a quarter of one.
Of the 69 main numbers in Powerball, 31 could be a day of the month and 38 could not. A slip filled from memory almost always stays under 32, because that is where the calendar stops. Lines built entirely from calendar numbers make up 1.5 per cent of the possible lines, and a far larger share of the tickets people fill in by hand. A line reaching above 31 wins no more often. It is held by fewer people when it does. The Powerball pool stops at 26, so that one sits inside calendar range whatever you do with the main numbers.
These follow from the pool size and nothing else. Treat them as a note on crowding, and treat the reading above as a way to choose rather than a way to predict.
