Super Lotto
大乐透, five front-area numbers from 35 plus two from the back area of 12. Run by the China Sports Lottery, and the same two-pool shape as EuroMillions. There are 324,632 ways to fill the 5 main numbers, and each must also land the right back-area numbers, 66 ways to draw 2 from 12, from a separate pool, which multiplies out to the 1 in 21,425,712.

Welfare and sport, two operators
China runs two lottery systems side by side and these games belong to one each. Double Colour Ball, six red from 33 plus one blue from 16, is the China Welfare Lottery's flagship. Super Lotto, five from 35 plus two from 12, belongs to the China Sports Lottery. The revenue is directed to different ministries, which is why two national games of similar size coexist.
Eight is the number added to hand-picked lines here and four is the one left off, from 發 and 死. On a 33-number board that concentration is sharper than it would be on a 49-number one, because there is less room to spread out.

Who else is holding your line
Nothing below improves your chance of winning. Every line is as likely as every other line and no arrangement of numbers changes that. What it can change is how many other tickets carry the same line, which decides whether a top prize arrives whole or in pieces.
Double Colour Ball
Of the 33 main numbers in Double Colour Ball, 31 could be a day of the month and 2 could not. A slip filled from memory almost always stays under 32, because that is where the calendar stops. Lines built entirely from calendar numbers make up 66.5 per cent of the possible lines, and a far larger share of the tickets people fill in by hand. The high numbers are not luckier. They are lonelier, and that is the whole of the effect. The blue ball pool stops at 16, so that one sits inside calendar range whatever you do with the main numbers.
Super Lotto
Only 89 per cent of the Super Lotto pool falls inside calendar range: 31 numbers a date could give you, 4 it cannot. Dates cannot reach past 31, so every line built from one crowds into the same stretch of the board. Lines built entirely from calendar numbers make up 52.3 per cent of the possible lines, and a far larger share of the tickets people fill in by hand. A line reaching above 31 wins no more often. It is held by fewer people when it does. The back-area numbers pool stops at 12, so that one sits inside calendar range whatever you do with the main numbers.
